Netflix launches dedicated family content section

In an effort to give families an easier way to view family and child-friendly content, Netflix has created a new section specifically designed  for the average family’s summer entertainment needs.

It features specially curated content lists that will appeal to children and families. According to a recent Netflix press release, 54 per cent of parents with children under 12 want it to be easier to entertain their family in the summer months. This survey was conducted by Ipsos Reid on behalf of Netflix.

“With the Netflix Families page, we’ve used our proprietary algorithm to create lists we think families will love,” Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, said in a recent press release.

This new list has categories like “family movie night,” “TV for curious kids” and “Are we there yet? Great titles to take on vacation.” Netflix already also has a “kids” sub category as well.

Melissa Etheridge: Angelina Jolie’s Mastectomy Decision Was ‘Fearful,’ Not ‘Brave’

Alice@97.3

(CBS News) Melissa Etheridge said she doesn’t agree with Angelina Jolie’s choice to have a preventative double mastectomy after learning she had the BRCA gene mutation that could lead to developing breast cancer.

In a recent interview with the Washington Blade, Etheridge, a breast cancer survivor, called the move “the most fearful choice you can make when confronting anything with cancer.”

After Jolie, 38, opened up about her decision to undergo the procedure in a New York Times op-ed, her husband, Brad Pitt, 49, said the choice was “absolutely heroic.” But Etheridge, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, said, “I have to say I feel a little differently. I have that gene mutation too and it’s not something I would believe in for myself.”

She added, “I wouldn’t call it the brave choice. I actually think it’s the most fearful choice you can make when…

‘World War Z’ Draws Massive Crowd In NYC

CBS Miami

NEW YORK (AP) — Thousands of screaming fans brought Times Square to a standstill as they waited to catch a glimpse of Brad Pitt at the premiere of his new thriller, “World War Z.”

The 49-year old actor took his time to talk to reporters on the appropriately-designed “Z-shaped” red carpet, often breaking away to sign autographs and pose for photographs with fans.

“We’re not doing this small… we’re going big this summer,” Pitt said of the premiere that resembled a music festival.

Pitt stars in and produced the apocalyptic thriller based on the book by Max Brooks. He’s the son of the legendary Mel Brooks.

Pitt plays a former United Nations investigator who traverses the world in a race against time to stop a zombie pandemic that is threatening to decimate humanity.

“We liked this idea of taking a genre and using that as, I guess, a metaphor for…

(CNN) — Angelina Jolie may not have been by Brad Pitt’s side, but she was certainly on his mind.

Pitt attended the New York premiere of his new film, “World War Z,” without Jolie, who was “getting ready for World Refugee Day,” Pitt told the assembled reporters. But asked to describe his feelings for his fiancee, he didn’t mince words.

“She has always been the brave, bold individual that I fell for — and sexy as ever,” he said.

Jolie recently announced she had undergone a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery after learning that she carried a mutation of the BRCA1 gene, which sharply increases her risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. Jolie’s mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died from ovarian cancer in 2007.

Jolie was with Pitt at the London premiere earlier this month and said that she felt “great.”

“I feel wonderful, and I’m very, very grateful…
